Big Trusting Eyes: Childlike Faith in Him

“I will lock eyes with the One who ransomed me.”

If you noticed I missed my usual Thursday post AGAIN, it’s because the flu didn’t just touch one child—it took over our house. Our 8-month-old baby girl got it, my husband did too, and we’ve been in full survive and recover mode.

One night, when Baby G was running a high fever, I got in the bathtub with her, hoping the tepid water would help bring her temperature down. Surprisingly, she wasn’t upset. She was cold from the fever, shivering a little in the water. And then, I looked down at her.

Her big, trusting eyes were locked on me. No matter how miserable she must’ve felt, those eyes never left mine. I can’t explain why it affected me so much, but in that moment, I realized how deeply significant it was.

Her trust was simple, pure. As long as she was held in my arms and her eyes locked with mine, she was okay. She was at peace, even in the discomfort.

And I couldn’t help but feel like the Lord was showing me something at that moment: Lock eyes with Him and trust in Him fully, with childlike faith.

Just as my baby trusted me to hold her, we need to let God hold us. We need to lock eyes with Him—steadfast, focused, unwavering. When we do, we don’t need to worry about the storms, people, trauma, or chaos around us.

But here’s the thing—when we take hold of Him, we have to let go of other things. Let go of unforgiveness, bitterness, and doubt. Let go of the need to control, the need to hold onto things that weigh us down.

When we hold on too tightly to hurts or what we think we can control, that’s when things get messy. That’s when we open doors to the enemy, giving him space to sow fear, bitterness, doubt, and unrest. But when we let go, and allow God to hold us, He steps in to heal us.

Even when things seem bleak, we can find peace by locking our eyes with Him. And when we struggle with unbelief, we can ask Him to help us. “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.” (Mark 9:24)

That’s what we need—childlike faith. Trusting fully, letting go of everything else, and letting Him lead us, heal us, and hold us through it all.

Hope this helps you guys too, see you tomorrow!
